The group was formed by David "Size 12" Mcfarlane, Brent "Sickhead" Blair, and Javelle "Platt Up" Johnson, all students of Cornwall College, located on Orange Street, Montego Bay, Jamaica. The name Block Q came about because that was the name of the block on school where we all hang out and listen, discussed and made music.

"The group was made out of our passion and love for music," Says Blair. " We had no impure motives, it was not a money venture, it was just out of the love we had from birth."

""We were not that great at first, but anyone listening to our music could hear  the potential and they supported us fully."

The group then began to voice artistes such as  X.L., Jeeby "The Lyricist, Lyrichal, Nick 3, ID Crew and others. Even the producers, "Sickhead" and "Size 12" were featured in the songs.

"It was listening to our role models music that helped us to better ours. Influences such as Stephen "Di Genius" Mcgregor, Timberland, Dr. Dre, Vybz Kartel, Equiknoxx Music, Bob, Stephen & Damian Marley, Aidonia and Dave Kelly helped to bring out  our talent, Says Mcfarlane."

This group takes part in the production of both Dancehall and Rapping instrumentals, as well as voicing and mixing songs and writing songs for persons upon request.
